LA Comparative Bordeaux Tasting Recap

LA Comparative Bordeaux Tasting Recap

Last Thursday, a group of us escaped chilly Chicago to host a Comparative Bordeaux Tasting at the Peninsula Hotel in Beverly Hills. The tasting compared the 1995 and 1996 vintages, both of which are drinking beautifully right now. The evening was a truly special opportunity to taste these two highly rated vintages side-by-side. The 1995s are lush, velvety and perfectly mature. The 1996s exhibit incredible structure that is reminiscent of the purity and power of the 2010 vintage.

photo 1The Peninsula was the perfect location for the tasting. Seventy-five guests joined us in the Verandah Room to taste through the wines and enjoy an impressive array of hors d’oeuvres and cheese from Chef David Codney’s kitchen. It was a pleasure to meet many of our West Coast clients first time and to catch up with old friends.

It is hard to choose favorites with such an impressive line-up, but some stand-outs of the evening were 1996 Cheval Blanc, 1996 Latour, 1995 Angelus, and 1995 Montrose. Both of the vintages seemed to be showing equally well. The power, precision, and purity of the First Growths stood out over the course of the evening.

Hart Davis Hart holds an annual Comparative Bordeaux Tasting in Chicago in the fall. In past years we have compared 2009 and 2010,1990 and 2000, 1985 and 1986 and many more. We also look forward to taking the Comparative Bordeaux Tasting on the road again in the future. If you would be interested in having us come to your city please feel free to let us know. In the meantime, you can shop available 1995 and 1996 Bordeaux through our retail website. A full listing of all available Bordeaux is available here.

Cheers!

Highlights from Bordeaux (Day 2)

Highlights from Bordeaux (Day 2)

Day two in Bordeaux was jam packed with six Chateau visits: Cheval Blanc, Vieux Chateau Certan, L’Eglise Clinet, Larcis Ducasse, Haut Bailly and Pape-Clement. In contrast to the Left Bank, the Right Bank has a somewhat more intimate and rustic feel. Namely, the properties tend to be a lot smaller.   Stop 1: Cheval BlancContinue Reading

Highlights from Bordeaux (Day 1)

The heat was the first thing to greet us as we made our way through the crowds at the Gare de Bordeaux St. Jean. Temperatures were in the mid-90s everywhere we went, with no limited relief except the air-conditioned car or the chateaux cellars. This was the beginning of two very full days for Moriah andContinue Reading
