It’s that time of year again: time to put away the seersucker jackets and white pants, bid adieu to the summer, and finalize your Fantasy Football drafts in preparation for football season. Labor Day means no work and all play, so here’s what the HDH team will be drinking on Monday:
2013 Bandol Rosé, Domaine Tempier – This is a delightful, summery wine perfect for sipping outside. Wine maker Daniel Ravier creates this blush beauty by combining lots that are both direct press and 24 hours of skin contact with a drop of juice bled off from red wine vats. The result is wine that displays piercing peach and rosewater notes and crisp, refreshing acidity. The unique terroir of Bandol makes for truly world class wines, and this Rosé is one of the best in the region. Robert Parker once described it as “the leading candidate for the world’s most hedonistic Rosé.”
2005 Beaux Frères Winery Pinot Noir, Beaux Frères Vineyard – Did you know that Oregon was the first state to celebrate Labor Day in 1887? Seems like a great reason to enjoy this fantastic Pinot from the Ribbon Ridge AVA within Willamette Valley. This Burgundian style wine by Beaux Frères, a partnership between Robert Parker and his brother in law, is a complex and subtly spicy wine with many layers to explore. It’s medium body and high acidity makes it a great pairing with everything from pork chops to grilled salmon.
2008 Quilceda Creek Winery Cabernet Sauvignon, Galitzine Vineyard – This fabulous cabernet from is an excellent pairing for any grilled red meat. Quilceda Creek Winery, owned by the Galitzine Family, is regarded by many as Washington’s premier Cabernet Sauvignon Producer. The fruit in this wine is sourced from the winery’s first family owned and controlled vineyard. This dense, ripe, and full bodied wine delivers enticing notes of black fruit, spices, and earth. It’s fabulous right now, but it will also continue to mature and improve over the next decade.
While you’re enjoying the day off, don’t forget to check out the rest of the incredible array of fine and rare wines on our retail site. As always, all the wines are fully inspected, in stock, and ready to ship. Happy Labor Day!
